Subject: Hann’s Park Disc Golf Course Ribbon Cutting - Tuesday, September 10th at 4pm.
VALLEJO, CALIFORNIA – Even though the Disc Golf course at Hanns Park opened for play back in 2021, the finishing touches have just been completed and GVRD is officially ready to cut the ribbon.
Jon Riley, a Disc Golf enthusiast, approached the GVRD Board of Directors in 2021 to request the development of a course in Vallejo. When phase one was completed, he hosted the “Knock The New Off The Chains” tournament which benefited the GVRD Open Space Foundation. In a 2021 letter to the Times Herald, Jon said: “I would like to thank the Greater Vallejo Recreation District Board of Directors for funding a majority from their General Fund, and Measure K. I also appreciate GVRD for allocating labor resources for this project. Please remember, this is your course so respect the neighbors and the land and enjoy this beautiful addition to recreation opportunities provided by GVRD!”
Since 2021 work has continued on the course; permanent tee signs, benches, erosion walls, stairs, a kiosk, and welcome sign have been added.
General Manager Gabe Lanusse stated: “We appreciate all the work that staff, Local Unions, and volunteers have done to this point. We will continue to make improvements, but we want to celebrate this milestone, the recent completion of the kiosk and welcome sign."
