Is My Home Exempt?

Tax bills for properties with a Measure K exemption don't indicate anywhere that the exemption has been added. Instead, the simple way to verify that your property is receiving the exemption is to look at the section that lists the various taxes and charges that make up your bill. Homeowners subject to Measure K will see a line item there labeled Greater Vallejo Recreation District for $48. If you don't see that item on your bill, you know your property has been exempted and will carry that exemption until the property next changes ownership.

Senior Exemption

Property Owners who are 65 years of age or older may apply for a senior exemption from the parcel tax. You need only apply one time, the exemption will remain in effect until the property changes ownership.

Are you applying with a co-owner who also qualifies for the exemption? The best thing to do is provide proof of age for both parties (e.g. DL/ID copies) so proof is on file for you both.

Contiguous Parcels Exemption

Property Owners of parcels that are contiguous to each other, in actual use as one single-family residential unit, and held under identical ownership may apply for an exemption to treat them as a single parcel for purposes of the parcel tax. Once granted, the exemption will remain in effect until any of the covered parcels changes ownership.

Senior Citizens, Blind, or Disabled Persons may benefit by learning more about the Property Tax Postponement Program administered by the State Controller's Office. You can visit their page at ptp.sco.ca.gov or call 800-952-5661 or email postponement@sco.ca.gov for more information and to see if you qualify. Their funding is limited, so assistance is on a first-come, first-served basis. Their application window is October 1st through February 10th each year.

You may also wish to contact the Solano County Assessor to determine if you are eligible for one of a number of exemptions such as a Homeowner's Exemption, 100 percent Disabled Veteran's Exemption, or Church and Welfare Exemption, which may result in tax savings.
